I think I might have a problem. My '59 SF has been good to me the past 13 years but lately has been acting up.
It all started when I got my '70 Gremlin in shape and began taking it, instead of the Plymouth, to car shows this year.
It started in June. Took Gremlin to show, left neglected Plymouth parked in garage. A few days later, a huge amount of transmission fluid on garage floor.
Then a few weeks ago, took Gremlin again. And same day, the trunk on the '59 would not open, and it's opened flawlessy for the past 13 years. Tried for 2 days of jiggling around and finally it popped open. Looked like part of the car cover I had thrown in there got caught in the lock mechanism.

Then I had a terrible vibration. Checked out everything and came up with too much play in rear end, so now am replacing the whole axle/housing with my low mileage parts car axle. I got rear end jacked up a little bit. Put it on jack stands but also got some nice 7"x9" hardwood blocks under there. Ain't taking any chances

Ironic thing is that on that first day I left Plymouth home, I commented to my friend, something like "poor Penny (that's her given name by previous owner) she's going to feel unwanted and neglected staying home". Maybe I should do some geneogly (sp). Maybe Christine's younger sister, cousin??

That is too funny, as I had the same developments when I took my '58 Dodge on a trip around the country, and left my daily driver Fury locked up in the Quonset hut. The transmission decided to empty its cxontents, even though I never had leak problems before, and the driver's door latch refused to release.


Hope these problems do not persist for you!

This being the 13th year I've had it might not help either

Remembering back when I first got the car, I had problems with trany (replaced it), power steering leaks, brakes, little problems. Previous owner had a penny attached to key ring. I noticed it was a 1984 penny. I took that off and replaced it with a 1959 penny and problems ceased, until now.

I think the Gremlin phase will wear out here pretty soon so will take Plymouth to shows again.
I'm just amazed by how much attention that Gremlin gets. Seeing it was made in Kenosha, WI a lot of show goers here worked in the AMC plant back then and have stories to tell.

I just saw a Gremlin X and a car show today with a 390 engine in it. Looked pretty neat!

That Gremlin is part of the Mopar brands/Heritage now and Penny should not be worried. Just a step sister/Brother thats all, Just awkward during the Holidays!

Just explain to Penny that Gremelda (Gremlin) is a distant cousin and wants to be her friend. Maybe they should spend some time together in the garage.

Gremelda....I like that. That name might stick. I think Dick just inherited the Godfather role.
The Gremlin was parked right next to Penny for a long time but now I park the Grem in the rear part of the garage to make room for repairs to the Plymouth. I took the Gremlin to a car show Sunday and when I got home I checked underneath Penny and it's still dry, so maybe she's getting used to staying home.
