Keijs in Canada

Post by rogerh »

Hello, I don't know if there is an ulterior motive for Ron and Marjo to visit western Canada, whether they are scouting possible new residence locations or simply having fun-
I'd like to ask them here what they may have located in terms of salvage yards. It seems to me as though Canada is the latest, upcoming source of restorable vintage cars. (I hope I am not throwing fuel on a fire).

Roger, keep throwing fuel on the fire and let me know where I can find good salvage yards in British Columbia or the western part of Alberta! The main purpose of our trip is pleasure, enjoying the wonders of nature. We will stay on vancouver Island for a few days and then we will travel through Whistler to Jasper and Banff. We hope to have enough time to cross the border to visit the US for a few days, Glacier NP has been on my bucket list for a long time. We will fly back home from Calgary. Next year the schedule will definately include Carlisle again to finally see John Q's ragtop 8)

Ron-

Hope you guys have a great trip! Western Canada has some great scenery to view, I especially enjoy the island. Lots of car collectors reside in that area too.

Dick, I know we are close to Gary Goers but I heard he has no parts in stock anymore. Matthew and John keep ordering and John's Mopar grotto is full now  Matthew will be there soon to help him clean out.

John, I already got a PM from one of our Canadian members on the route and we are trying to meet him.

In exactly two weeks we will be on our way 8) 8)

Depends on what you order, Matthew's convertible boot cover took 4 months to make up. I know he outsources it but.... The V for V-8 on the deck lid is still on back order since the first of the year. I was told it would be sent out before June is over but that is the last time that Matthew and I both ordered that has not come in yet.

John - I quess it depends on the item. I ordered sun visor brackets for my convertible which are totally different than hardtops or sedans. When I talked to Gary he didn't think he had anymore left but lo and behold they showed up in a couple of weeks. Now I have to have the visor rods chrome plated.

Nice score, Dick! Gary is known for his reproduction items, but he does come across some original stuff now and then!

Dick, I am on my second set of visor hook brackets. They are made of plastic/Nylon and the weight of the sun visor broke them already on the plastic threaded part, Tom Fox said they would break and he was right. Tom had modified his visor hooks with a piece of threaded metal so it won't break.

I will drill out my second set and set the threaded rod with JB weld and then do it Tom's way. I need to do this mod this weekend since the convert will be back from the shop for having the top put on it.

Yes, one of mine broke too, and fixing it meant taking the stainless header bar off, so I think I just glued the thing back in. Matthew could tell you more. Tom Fox knows how to fix things permanently.
