Steering column cap

Post by duggar »

Has anyone ever seen a source to get the cap that fits over the steering column. It is like a hood that that covers and fills in the gap between the steering column and the instrument cluster. I have never seen one for sale. It is made out of plastic or bake lite. Mine is completly disintergrated. Any sources or suggestions? PN: 23-33-132

I packed away all my parts books, but I believe you are referring to the filler that goes between steering column and dashboard. Age and sunlight turn these things to dust. Best bet is to track down a parts car up here in tne Northwest (Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington). John Fowlie (Big M) occasionally pulls salvage cars from around these parts.
I did not have an easy time finding an intact one.

Dugger - You question prompted me to check and see if I had on on my convertible but alas, none was there. Luckly the one on my red and white car was OK. I doubt if you will find one, good luck. I think one nite when watching TV I will try to fashion one out of a aluminum soda can.

Thats what I was talking about. If I had an example or a good picture I know someone might could fabricate one out of metal. If someone could email me a good close up picture one (duggar11@yahoo.com) I could see if my friend could make one. I don't think there are any for sale. Its one of those things that when its missing it just doesn't look right.

I have pictures posted in the Showcase. White 59 Sport Fury. The car has been improved on a lot since those pictures were posted. I will post some newer pictures on the show your ride section but I have't figured out how to post pictures yet. Give me your email and I will send some pictures direct to you.

As I am spinning my wheels here, it makes me consider starting in to making molds and reproduction parts
