Re: Horizontal or vertical stripes on SF
Wow, the brochure shows verticla dark stripes. My tattered seats, which are original as far as I can see have them horizontal.
I was looking at most of the Interiors of SF's in the showcase. And Wil E. car and Bernie B's cars all have horizontal stripes. I wonder if the 59 Brochure which is a picture was just done wrong in the artist rendering or maybe they came both ways from different vendor suppliers as someone else surmised?
Need to do some more reseach on old pictures of original cars. I will check the Lawerence Welk commercials to see what they show on those cars.

Re: Horizontal or vertical stripes on SF
Many things are possible...I assume brochures are printed long before the actual cars arrive on the showroom floor.
There could have been a mid-line change on assembly line, as it seems both were produced.
I haven't taken the time to notice if there is variation in the door panel stripe orientation.

Re: Horizontal or vertical stripes on SF
Welllll, I looked at some of the commericals we have on this Web Site under "Ephemera" Videos and commericals, and the one that is titled "Can Do" Part 1" shows a SF interior that has vertical dark stripes supporting the Brochure picure that Roger posted. So at least early on the stripes were vetical, And later changed to Horizontal. Or yet another possibility is that the fabric supplier at different plants made them both ways...Weird.
So both are accceptable patterns but personally, (who cares, right?) I like the Horizontal approach to the SF stripes but to each their own. Unless we can find an offical change bulletin on the pattern of the seats (kinda like the rocker molding release...) it will remain a MOPAR mystery
I am ordering the SF door panels and material from SMS to upgrade my Belvy to the 2nd known "Sport Belvedere" My wife just likes that interior style and I have the old swivel seats that I bought 5 years ago to go with it. To each their own I guess... And If I wanted to go back to a true belvy interior I could easily (minus a couple thousand dollars!)do so..

Slimming? Why... Rick what do you mean? I did put HD shocks on the Convert just for a smother ride.....
I just ordered the door panels ($795 for all 4, includes the rear quarter panels) and will try to measure up the material needed for both seats. If you will teach me how to sew I am all in!

Rick - Don't you think John should get a shirt and pants with verticle strips of the same material, then he would melt away into nothing, well almost!

Re: Horizontal or vertical stripes on SF
Dick,
I agree 100%, John should wear the same strip shirts as the material on his seat but what if he has the horizontal striped material??? Wouldn't he look big in horizontal stripes? Maybe the only options is tinted windows then....

Happy Foodfest...I mean Thanksgiving.
I am indeed fortunate to be invited to a relative's home tomorrow.

Re: Horizontal or vertical stripes on SF
I see the stripes discusion moved over here and then petered out after Thanksgiving, hope everyone had a good one and no longer needs the upholstery for slimming purposes. Maybe that's why Santa wears a big red suit, no stripes. Anyway, i took a look at my parts car today and it has vertical stripes - from an early LA-built car. Then I looked at 4 cars built at Evansville after mine, knowing the serial numbers - results mixed, both stripe patterns. So it it not plant or date built, just random patterns. One car even appears to have door panels horizontal and seats vertical, draw your own conclusions.
That's all for this topic I bet.

Re: Horizontal or vertical stripes on SF
Weird, I was talking to guy at SMS Auto Fabric today, and he had sent me two pictures of the SF interior I just ordered and he himself never noticed that the stripes in both of his pictures were different. one up and one horizontal.
He says that most of his 59 SF customers opt for the horizontal stripes....so I am toast on the slimming aspect!
