Front Suspension

Post by indian301 »

I am installing new bushings and ball joints on my '59 Suburban. Does anyone know the torque spec for the lower pivot bushing bolt (lower control arm) that goes through the frame and the nut on the inside where the torsion bar slides into? Also the seal number for a (manual) steering box sector shaft, where the pitman arm bolts to?

Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave,
I have looked in my workshop manual and found the following info for you,

Torque spec for the lower control arm shaft nut (inner) = 125 ft. lbs.
Torque spec for the lower control arm shaft nut (outer) = 180 ft. lbs.

original part number for your steering box oil seal is 1730 985 (not sure if parts stores would still list this original number?)
I would think if you were to take the shaft and steering box to any bearing seal store they would be able to size up the replacement seal .

Hope this helps you out!
Dan
