rear axle

I am in the process of replacing the rear axle on my 1959 Belvedere sedan. Does anybody know what vehicle(s) I could get an axle from that would fit as a modern replacement?

I'm pretty sure the older guys know this.

For some reason I remember a 77 volare. Thought curt told me this but not sure if it also was about the axle. Think he has that engine in his savoy

All true. I used a 76 Volare 8 1/4 posi w3:23 gears. I also used the subframe and 318 and 904 trans w stall converter. I think all this info is in my profile. Good luck, curt

I hope that you were planning to replace the entire third member, as the axles on the 59 have tapered ends.

Reading, looks like you have it covered. 1977 and modern? Matthew wasn't born yet. We did toy with the idea of a 74 Plymouth wagon 9 1/4 with disc brakes, may still happen on another project.

I have heard that a 67 C Body Mopar (Dodge Polara,Chrysler Newport/New Yorker,Plymouth Fury) will drop in with no spring perch movement needed (just what I heard...)

Perch are delicious, Oh Remember measure twice and cut once. Seriously MoPar performance has a spring mount or perch kit worth looking into. I will list the numbers later, if you need to relocate for the spring location these work great!. A large protractor is also helpful.

I looked into a C body (1974 I think New Yorker) and the donar car subframe and rear end were too large (wide) to fit under my Savoy - Just what I remember from 16 years ago!

I had springs made for my car at a local spring shop so I can't answer about the perches being in the same location.. The springs were cheap ($109 a side I believe?) This way I could have them dearched to lower ther car without compromising the ride.

John Quinn may have that information, now that he purchased a 3-volume set of (Canadian) shop manuals for 1959'ers.

If my measurements are correct the easiest and most direct bolt in would be the 1965 to 1970 8 3/4 from a B body. IE Charger, Satellite,Coronet,Belvedere,Road Runner type bodies. There would not be a need for a drive shaft change.

That sounds about right. I wonder how far off my "F" body (76 Volare???) rear was from drum to drum and spring perches - not that it really matters - its a done deal and its only the 8 1/4 posi rear! Of course I do have a Road Runner Drive shaft

We had a 106 degree day yesterday and possibly 100 degree day today. The 106 degree set an all time record for Maryland - the previous high had been 105 and that happened three times.
