Oldschoolguy - Just noticed on the rear of your car the Sport Fury script. This has probably been discussed before but I might have missed it.
Anyway, you must have bought this car from George Dalinas. I first noticed this car in "The Plymouth Bulletin" No 199.
I put a Sport Fury script on the rear of my car too, but it is on the trunk lid on the right side. There was already 2 holes there, probably from a dealer logo, so I used one of these holes for the script and the other one is covered by it.
I got the idea from George's (your) car.
I figured if a Plymouth Owners Club 1959 Technical Advisor can do it, so can I

Tell me about this Plymouth bulliten 199. What is it and where do I find it? I bought the car off of Ebay about a year and a half back. It was located in Memphis tenn - not sure if the owner was George Dalinas or not? The previous owner said he had bought it 4 years earlier from a guy that was some sort of Plymouth car club presdent or somthing ouyt of Chicago. Anyway - I haven't seen these sripts on other 59's and was wondering if it was "correct" or not. Also - If anyone has any backround info on this particular car I would love to learn about its history.

Hello Ernie,
Roger here, you bought my Belvedere-Fury wannabee.
George Dalinis of Chicago had two (maybe three?) '59 Plymouths. First he restored a hardtop, then his friends challenged him to resurrect a Belv cvt he found in a salvage yard.
As he restored the Belv, he made the decision to upgrade it to a Sport Fury with spare parts he had. The PB article gives details.
I don't know which car you have.
The Plymouth Bulletin is a product of the Plymouth Owners Club, PO Box 416, Cavalier, ND. 58220.
While the Club does offer back issues of their publication, they do not have any spare copies of #199. There may be some club members on this list who have that issue...and maybe they will write in. (I thought I had a copy, but I can't find it.)

Thanks for the reply.
That's interesting - and fits with what the guy I bought the car from said. Was George a well known guy around here? Do we know what became of him? I decoded the VIN and it shows mine to be a true SF. I would love to learn whether the now 54,000 miles showing on the odometer is the second, third, or even fouth time around?

It's been a few years, but George needed to sell his cars due to failing eyesight. He would be in his upper 80's if he is still "with us"..

I don't think Tom Fox or John Zastrow would mind if I gave their names as folks who may have #199 at home. I'm pretty sure George served as Technical Advisor for 1959 Plymouths in the Plymouth Bulletin for many years.

If Dan has one maybe he knows how to get that article to you. I don't know how.
Anyway, that Sport Fury script on rear of car is not factory or original. That probably came off of a '65 Sport Fury or thereabouts. But when I saw it in the bulletin I thought it was kind of neat. At car shows everybody calls the Sport Fury a Fury because of the script on rear sides. So this way it helps clarify it a little bit.

OK - it's not the greatest quality, I did it on the copier at work so i didn't have to futz with it. I can improve it a bit, but in '93 the magazine was not all that great quality anyway, and a lot of the pictures were already very dark. One day I'll work on improving the scan and lightening up the images, but at least you can read the article.

P.S. - despite the quality, you can clearly see the "SportFury" emblem affixed to the rear! And the caption calls it out

Because it interests ("possesses"?) me about my car, I wonder if George switched over the wheelwells so that the hardtop got the cvt wheelwells. No mention of them in the article.

Do you remember that you also bought my Belvedere HT that looked sort of like Christine...
I took a similar route that Geroge Dalinis took...I bought a completely rusted Belv Cvt and hired a body man to graft the cvt stuff to a HT body. What my body man forgot to do was to use the rear wheeel wells from the cvt....as a result something binds up when we fold the top down, thus it won't go down as far as an original convertible top would. Looks sort of bogus.
I have sold the car to Ron Keij of the Netherlands...so maybe he will deal with the issue.
