Re: Tires and Wheels Oh my! what type to use?
Those Coker 3" whitewall are darn fine tires (I've put them on both a '59 studebaker and a '58 bug), but the price is prohibitive at the moment. For now, I just bought a set of near-new Chrome Smoothie wheels with new tires on 'em, for $250. I love the way they look. Blackwall tires though, but...

Re: New Floor Pans
Sam, I'd bet you'd be better off looking for a dry or decent set of pans off an original car. I have used LOTS of repro steel in the past, and 9/10 times it's garbage, too thin or wrong creases, etc. If someone knows better, they'll chime in I am sure! BTW, I'm over in Berkeley with my '59 4-door be...

Wheel replacement options, tires etc.
OK so my car needs tires.... and I am not a lover of 14" wheels. I wanted to put chrome smoothies on her, anyone know offhand if the JEGS-sold Cragar smoothies will fit? I am shooting for the wider 15x7 wheels. Plan to put Indy 500 white letter radials on the new wheels..... Wheels I like: http...

Re: Transmission interchange question
You guys are great!!! So my goal here would be, ideally, to maintain kickdown from the carb (with a 727 assembly from a 62?), and to use a lokar top-mounted shifter on a 518 specifically. Overdrive would be quite a feat for my long-haul trips to Oceanside (8-9 hour drive). I believe after this my pr...

Re: Transmission interchange question
Ok very cool! Necessary info- my engine and trans are both fine at the moment, but ideally I want three speeds and longer freeway legs. At that point I may just put in a mopar LA and a 727 and sell my setup to someone whose goal is originality. This beast is too gone to be put back to stock, but I a...

Transmission interchange question
I've got a 318 and 2speed auto in my '59. Is the mate-up and bellhousing the same on an A block as on an LA block? My question boils down to this- how easy is it to mate-up a torqueflite 727 to the back of my engine? I understand there would need to be changes made as far as driveshaft, trans mount ...

Needed: several parts, mostly exterior for '59 Bel
OK guys, time to start moving forward with the TANK! 318 2bbl with 2spd auto (had to fix those shift buttons with some casting resin and patience). With my laptop's camera the pic came out reversed- no, it's not a right-hand-drive car :) I am not picky, but I need to replace some stuff. Driver quali...

Re: New '59 owner in the bay area!
Haha yeah, I did! Nice guy. LOVE his other vehicles! I've had it for a week. Got the master rebuilt yesterday (myself), and today it's in for a brake line fab in the rear. Gonna have it cruising this weekend! Now I just need to track down some clean bucket seats and install my headliner....

Engine & trans swap?
I have a 318 2bbl and a 2speed powerflite. I am thinking about swapping for an LA 318 or 360, and a 727 transmission with a Lokar shifter through the floor. Any ideas or recommendations? How different are the motor mounts for this job, and do you think I will encounter transmission clearance issues?...

New '59 owner in the bay area!
I'm excited as heck to be here, just picked up a '59 Belvedere 4door last weekend! Wanted something more.... ah, substantial.... than my 2 valiants. This big old beast has a 318 and a 2speed powerflite. Pics to come soon... I am still digging under my nails after the master cylinder rebuild this aft...
