(Is that Ron Keij through
the prism of 1959?
No -- I do believe that's Matthew Keij at the helm...) |

Vlaardingen 4/30/05
"Next Thursday it is 60 years since we were liberated by
the allies and today a lot of veterans were invited to come see the vehicles,"
says Ron. "They also got a ride in the parade through the city and where
a lot of people
were cheering for them. For those old men it was certainly a day to remember
and they really liked it that the people in the Netherlands are still very
grateful.
While the parade was going on they also threw 'war bread' to the people
standing along the route.
The day started with a little rain but after about an
hour the sun came out.
It was a great event with our car show and lots of other things. The Marine
showed their skills with a Lynx helicopter several times. They gave a
demonstration with picking up people from the water, some flying stunts and
dropping
paratroopers. There were several boats from our coast guard and one from
the fire department.
Yes they also have trucks but as you can see on the other side of the
river there are a lot of refineries close to the water so a boat is useful
some
times. There were lots of oldtimer cars both European and American and
a lot of old (WW II) army vehicles. "
