Mark hails from Layton,
Utah. He writes, "I've loved cars all my life, I was born in 1959
in Detroit MI, my Grandfather and father worked for Chryslers for many
years. I remember the days of going down to the Jefferson plant and
seeing the new cars before the rest of the public, what a rush that
was. Over the years I've had a lot of great cars but never found a car
the year I was born in that really grabbed me. Then about four years
ago I was walking through a wrecking yard and saw this big green wing
car, I knew it was a Plymouth but just wasn't sure of the year. The
next day I was talking to my friend and he said that car was a 1959
Savoy. I called the yard and they said yes, it's a '59 and it has been
setting for about 25 years, it ran when it came into the yard." |

"Now the question...How much do they want for
it? It's funny because the guy asked me cash or check, I said cash!
Well $1700 dollars later I'm on my way home with my first 1959 Plymouth
Savoy. I have built many old cars (1938 Chevy to 56 Cadillac) over
the years and have learned many lessons too, so I went the smart way
versus trying to take short cuts."

"I replaced or cleaned
anything that had to do with getting the old flathead six to run. Within
a few days I had it running, I purchased the car in January of 2001
so I was looking forward to the warmer months to spend some quality
time working on her. I have cleaned and replaced brake parts and have
learned that brakes on these cars aren't like most cars, over all the
59 drives pretty nice, it's no race car but she'll get up to 75 on the
expressway. Only changes I've made so far are the Mopar Cop rims and
some bigger 60's tires. My plan for her down the road is a 440 with
a 4, 5, or 6 speed trans and a pistol grip shifter like I had in my
69 Roadrunner. I do like the stock look to these cars, so I'm sure I'll
keep the body pretty original, I even like the mint green paint!" |

"Thanks for letting me tell you about my car, as you can see I
have big plans for her, I get offers all the time to buy her but I tell
people that she is the same age as me so as long as I keep her going
then I should be Ok too, so no sale!"
