59 convertible for sale in the Netherlands

Post by Ron Keij »

A friend of mine sent me a couple of links of a 59 convertible for sale about 20 miles from us. It is imported from Germany and still has the German registration but it is the 3rd SF in the country.

Hello Ron,

This is one reason more to visit you. This car looks straight as an arrow!!! Did you already see it in real size?
Besides I’ve never noticed that there are more than one convertible in Germany – in fact I’ve never seen one at all. But the price ….. spicy

Hi Stefan,

I haven's seen the car as it isn't in a "normal" garage. You have to make an appointment and be serious about spending a lot of money to get in :(

And at the moment I am far to busy to find the time to go there and I am also short on money to be really interested in the car 8) But if it is still there by the end of December I will go there and check it out. I'll tell the guy that I am hired to check out the car for a very wealthy German/Portugese guy who is in love with this convertible :D

Stunning, breath-taking. Look at that grille and eyebrow shine!
Only thing I don't like is black armrests on doors.

Roger, if I decide to buy it would you be able to help me with the right color armrests?

It has been a while but I finally found the time to check out this car and all I can say about it is STUNNING :!:

The car is really sharp and perfectly restored, check out the pics to see for yourself. The price is lowered to € 77,500 now.

Fun to re-visit those pictures from the original offering back in '06.
The data plate on the radiator core support is odd.
In the dash photo, there are several aftermarket switches or controls mounted low down on the dash. I wonder what they control...

Roger,

The data plate was standard on Swiss build cars and the switches are probably for safety features from a later era. I know that Stefan has 4 way flasher installed in his car, without those he couldn't get the car on the road legally. We are lucky that although we have to many rules here the cars can stay the way they were. A year ago the annual safety test was changed a bit and cars built before 1960 don't even have to be tested anymore. But before that the rule was that I had to go to the test every year and nobody knew what to check for since it had to be good according to the manufacturers standards in 1959. Back then there were no Sport Fury's here and nobody knows anything about now
The only thing they ever tried was nagging me about the size of the license plate, they couldn't explain what it had to do with safety but my plates were to small. So from that year on I had to change the plates twice a year, once when it was going to the test and once when it came home.

Ron, AT 77K Euro, I bet you can get some good ol' US of A Stimulus Money to pick up the SF convert today, Check in with AIG and see if they have any extra funds they can loan you. Ha!

But the car is in Great Shape! To bad the Global Economy is so bad. This car would be a keeper! Perfect for Marjo! :D

Marjo, I can see you now in this White convertible with your Hollywood sunglasses, hair scarf to keep you brand new Coiffure in check, and of course the long white driving gloves......

Tell Ron to take some funds out of his retirement account and make your dream come true! But then again, if you had a car like this you may not come over to the States this summer. You would be to busy attending European car shows.

Good to have Dreams....

Hi Ron,

I understand you are the "go to" guy for '59 Plymouth front bumper extension information. I need a platable left bumper extension. Can you help me? Thanks.
