Automatic Transmission Fluid

Does anybody have a preference for transmission fluids or modern equivalent for the push button Torqueflite transmission ?

I have searched the Forum and big m has stated "The original recommended fluids was Type A fluid, which is hard to get. Type A was superceded by Type-A, Suffix A, then by Dexron, and then Mercon. Any of these would be fine. Many 300 club members swear by using type F [Ford] fluid for its friction qualities too."

Not sure what is in there. About 7 years old. Few miles on it. So adding Mercon to top off the fluid to full should be OK?
