Classic car insurance

Post by Nighthawk »

Hey all, I received a call from a friend of mine who lives in Utah, he's considering getting a classic car and and he asked me about classic car insurance, so I need to know, who in the U.S. do you guys get/recommend to insure a classic car?

Bob, I use Haggerty on my cars but some friends use Gundy and like them too! IMHO.

PS When did you get friends? LOL

I have friends because I owe them money and that is why they hang with me in hopes of getting it back some day! :P

I also had Hagerty insurance (Hagerty.com), had no claims of course.
They ask for photos of the car, and allow YOU to determine its value.

I have American Collectors:

http://www.americancollectors.com

Just sent pix; I set the value, never had a claim. They offer towing service too (beyond what AAA provides).

In the past when I've tried to insure with Hagerty's, they've asked how many people live in the house. It didn't matter that I took public transit to work, or that my daughter didn't have a license; if the number of cars (including Faulkner) did not exceed the number of people, in their view that meant someone might resort to routinely driving the classic, and I was declined their insurance.

I use my everyday provider (State Farm) because I have been with them since 1979 and know if I ever needed them they would be there for me. I also reduce the insurance during non-use months (Just comprehensive) so the yearly price becomes about the same price as Grundy, Haggerty and others. I have seen only one case from Grundy where they were slow to pay and argued the value on a 1946 Chevrolet Converttible that was rer-ended and totalled. That was enough to scare me into my regular insurance guy. Besides I insure three cars and my home all under the same guy!

Just my 2 cents!

I am also a long time State Farm member, over 45 years. I insure my home, four vehicles, and a car trailer all with State Farm. I find them very competetive.

I need to look at State Farm again, I also have them for home/auto and Life Insurance for 32 years now. (Sheesh I am old!)

I had used them for one of my Barracuda's I had owned but drifted to Haggerty, I will get a quote from them to see if they are close to Haggerty's prices.
