I just got off the phone with Ed's wife, Ruth - it seems Ed's had a bout with lung cancer. He had a resection this week, and is due to come home today. The good news is, it was Stage I, there's no evidence of metastases, and his prognosis is good. Of course, he is in a lot of pain from the surgery.
Ruth wanted folks to know. Ed doesn't often write on the Forum, but he does read it regularly - so, wish him well here, or drop him a line:

To top it off, poor Ruth caught a bad cold in the hospital, and sounded awful on the phone. Wish her well too! She needs to feel better to take care of Ed. A speedy recovery to them both.
You better get well soon as you'll have to be fit again this summer, we already scheduled our annual visit to Voorhees Just talked to Ruth and she was optimistic about our visit.
Dear Ed,
While we haven't met, as a member of this Group I feel I can send you a get-well message.
Twenty years ago I watched my dad recover from triple-bypass surgery.
While he was not a strong man physically, his enormous strength of spirit and the love of a devoted wife (and good doctors) had him up and walking, and in time he was back at his favorite hobbies.
I wish you a speedy recovery
I hope you both feel better soon. If you must be sick and recovering from surgery - it might as well be in the Winter when the weather puts a damper on all the other hobbies we enjoy.
Today I had the opportunity to visit with Ed and Ruth. I was truly alarmed when I first got the call from Ruth - but today, sitting and chatting with Ed in his family room, I could see that he is well on his way to recovery. Let's hope that the prognosis continues to be good! Ed still is suffering some pain, but is managing it well.
Ed wants everyone who contacted him, publicly or privately, to know how much he appreciates the heartfelt sentiment. He is deeply appreciative, and thanks you all.
