Vic, in practical terms - the distribution of air from the A/C would work best from the center position. And operationally, it would be the passenger managing the record player from the side, not the driver from the center. (Geez, did they have record player laws for drivers, like they do now for cellphones )
Yes I too wanted it in the middle but the ac needs robe placed slightly off Centre from the hump otherwise clashes with the accelerator pedal
The record player then doesnt sit under the AC unit given its height so it needs to sit proud of it and as it needs to be mounted slightly off the floor it all starts to look awkward
Vic - l think you just answered your question. Do you think the AC evaporator unit case could be altered or shortened to clear the pedal??? It must be nice to be young enough and have the time to be as meticoulous as you are in making your car absolutely perfect. Because of my age l had to hurry up so there would be time left to drive it a little bit.

When l had my 63 Ford Galaxie Convertible l installed a specially made kit for that particular car from Classic Air in Tampa, FL. The underdash unit looked small to me. I found out it was for a mustang but they assured me l would not be dissapointed. They were correct, there were four round outlets on the face and there was a strong blast of air, it cooled down the Galaxie nicely. Google them and take a looksee. A key to a good blast of air is adequate current from your generator or alternator. When l put AC in my Desoto l installed a 35 amp one wire alternator. It wasn't enough current to support the electronic ignition l installed with the GM modulator. I installed a 65 amp alternator from a 73 Charger and haven't had a problem yet. The bonus is the AC cold air and fan speed seems to have doubled.

I have seen the Ac unit you reference. My concern was that it was a design for ford and would look out of place in the Plymouth coupled with the fact of shipping cost - gets me every time as it's as much as the unit itself
Shipping is what usually kills the deal. Not talking about import taxes yet!
That's why I try to take as many parts as I can with me in my suitcase every time.
Best thing is if you don't like how the record player is sitting, you can always remove it and hang it back later
Got the car on the hoist and started on the transmission mount
The 61 727 trans mount fell short by about 140mm from the trans cross member
I made up a plate so that I could still use the original style trans mount
Apart from this the hand brake mounting was a match as was the shifter cable
The tail shaft assembly was a match and it bolted in nicely
The only other one small adjustment to be made is the kick down rod
The original torque flight rod is a little bit longer

Some more updates
Trans lines in, shockers in ( managed to get some Kyb style ones) reworked radiator in (the bottom outlet clashed with the oil filter, must have been a radiator from a 318)
Exhaust are currently being made
Started on the power window switches and noted that my housing were brittle and in parts melted
I found these on the web. Not sure if you guys have seen these before. A fellow forward looker was restoring his 58 Plymouth and struct the same issue
He's ended up making these reproductions with a 3D printer

Also bought my battery (ended up painting it black to try and look half original and als put on Gary Goers (GG) sticker on)
Oh also a big thanks to Dan for helping me out with a shipment from GG he was a great help and made this process so much easier
