Faulkner gets a Redo
Re: Faulkner gets a Redo
I think the stud is welded to the hinge, look at the hinge you have off and check. Even if you double nut it, what if the stud breaks off under the dash. Did you forget about the Dick Koch underdash access tool, i.e. bucket and board. I still believe the easiest way is to cut the stud off with a sawsall if you can get a blade between the hinge and firewall.

Re: Faulkner gets a Redo
It looks like the nut is welded, not the stud. I gave the locked-nut trick a shot with the hinge that's out - doncha know the stud spun right out of there, I hardly had to lean on it.
The stud has a factory burr in it, though, to stop it when it gets where it needs to be. Too much at the end of a workday to fuss with this, though, I'll try the trick under the dash this weekend.
If it breaks between the washer and the firewall, I'm golden! And if it doesn't, then I'll resort to a hacksaw between the hinge and the firewall.
Where's that pic, Dick?! I want to see it again. It will come in useful when my seats are back in.

The antenna bases are done. It would take a book to explain what you sent me and what l did. They both have new (correct size) studs, fender washers, rubber sealing washers and nylock nuts. One of the bases had a missing stud and the threads were also gone, there is not enough metal to drill the hole deeper and rethread it so with your permission l will use J B Weld to remount the stud. It should be OK. Just remember to use some silicon sealant on the rubber washer and not overtighten the nuts, snug should be OK. Be careful when raising and lowering the antennas. See the pitchuhs.

Those are awesome, Dick!
Yup, JB Weld to the rescue, go for it. Now, about those antenna masts...
I’ll save that for another post, hopefully this evening.
Great stuff!!

Re: Faulkner gets a Redo
I seem to remember reading some where that the masts for the front fender are the same masts used on the dual rear bases.... not 100% on that but it would make sense to me from a manufacturing/production stand point to use the same. Fallowing close as I have 3/4th's of a dual antenna set my self (one complete mast and one broken off near the base). There were some NOS replacement masts on eBay a while back but they were asking I believe $175.00 for just the set of masts!
Dick, again great work! Dan, With Gary Goers no longer producing parts, what is the plan for a rubber gasket, or did you one you acquired be for he retired.

Will, yup! I scored a pair of gaskets from Goers. Off to the basement to snap some pix of my antenna mast situation...
