Main Bearing Oil Seal Additives

Post by Donny »

I have heard so many excellent reports on the additive AT-205 Re Seal product for stopping oil leaks on oil seals(rubber). However I am wondering if they work on the old style rope seal in the 318 Poly engines in our 59s etc. Don.

Don - Most oil additives are formulated to swell rubber seals. Assuming rope seals are organic i.e. sisal or hemp I doubt an additive would have any effect. Try asking GOOGLE the guestion.

Replacing rear main seals on our favorite choice of vehicles is an easy endeavor. Changing from rope seal to two piece neoprene is okay also. KD Tools make a handy to use seal replacement set, well worth the money. I have no preference of type of seal and use both.
