1959 Suburban
1959 Suburban
Well, I was making great progress last Saturday. I had put in over 12 hours on the car that day. Repaired both lower rear quarter panels, finished my modified fuel cell, and painted the inside back half of the car. That is until the Flu bug knocked me on my A!@#*$. I probably got it from one of the snotty nosed kids I teach at school; (K-5 PE). So my Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and half of today were spent lying in bed trying to sweat out a 101 degree fever. Okay, enough of the complaining, here are the pictures. Should be back on task tomorrow.

Great pictures! I love the smuggler tank built into the old foot well in the rear! LOL How many gallons does it hold?

Re: 1959 Suburban
I needed to use a different tank because of the fuel injection pump assembly. The original tank was too narrow and hidden in the fenderwell. The tank from the sacrificial truck was over six feet long, so there was no where to mount it. The reason it is dropped through the floor is to clear the giant lid for the footwell area. It only holds 22 gallons.

At least you are saving it instead of crushing in it!
Can you pm me the vin number and the data from the trim plate?
Don't look for a trim plate if your vin is m273 or m173

Lots of progress in the last month. Replaced all of the bushings and ball joints in the front end. Replaced the steering box (worm gear was missing some teeth). The front end (sheetmetal) is now on for good, it is amazing how many bolts were missing! I also finished my exhaust system, rear brakes, and lowered the back of the car two inches. I have been working on the dash and firewall to fit the heat and A/C for the last three weeks. This three day weekend was just what I needed. The heat and A/C are in for good as well as the dash. My wife was a big help today, we installed the windshield that I got from John.

It's on the road
I was like a kid in a candy store. I got my tags from MVD on Tuesday and my Suburban is now legally to drive. Over the last two days I have driven it over fifty miles with no problems whatsoever. It runs fantastic! I have had it up to 65mph and it feels great. Fuel injection and overdrive transmission should make for easy cruising at 80 plus mph. I do not know the last time the car was on the road, but the friend who gave it to me had it in his yard for over 10 years and he hauled it home from California where it had been sitting for who knows how long.
