The Convertible

Post by Matthew Keij »

It's time for 1 complete topic. Will update this one whenever something gets done!

We did the biggest thing today, we went to the dutch DMV and applied for a license plate.
The car got a test and after 2 small things we got the news that the car passed!
Next week we will have the car papers and we are ready to cruise!

I also took some video today. Sorry for the WMV format again but converting to FLV seems to be a mission impossible for me
If you don't see the video check if there is a bar on top of your window where you have to click to allow the movie to play.

[I've converted all videos in The Forum from .wmv format to .mp4, which has emerged as the internet standard. -Dan]

I am not at home but thats not holding me back to work on the car.

At Carlisle i got a pair of 361 valve covers with breather tube. The breather tube was missing on the convertible when we got it.
John Q got me to a Mopar shop where they de-greased them and sand blasted them.
I wanted to paint them here as we dont have heat resistant gold and i am not allowed to ship or take paint with me.

Also got a carb from 1959 for a 361 at Carlisle that Rick C rebuild for me (thanks Ricky!!!), more on that later.
Got a load of parts from Napa as its all so cheap over here but some parts are in next week so also more on that later!

Now on to the pics!

For whatever reason I had not seen the videos of the Dutch safety check until today. Interesting!
Have you gotten a new fanbelt yet? I guesss technically the belt should have a mate, but I couldn't find the correct pulleys.
How did I have the draft tube set up when you took possession of the car? Was a hose directing the fumes back to the carb? I thought I had sent along everything you would need. :?:
I am happy you found what you needed at Carlisle. The new paint will inspire you to re-do the aircleaner...oh, that's right, you can't take paint home with you!
I asked JQ if you once again brought with you the items which I loaned to your dad (photos and stuff). He said he didn't know.

We got a new fan belt from eBay, got an extra too.

There was no tube, pipe or cap on it. The tube is almost ready to go home.
I know my dad gave me pictures but they are still on my desk I guess as I haven't found them in my suitcase. I know I had them ready to pack!
I will send you those as soon as I get home!!!!

Also Rick just gave me the carb! It's better than new. Will post pics tonight

Is the rebuilt carb for the cvt or the HT?
Sorry, but I can't completely forget about 10+ years I spent on that car!
I would NOT have had my car with no draft tube, or a cap with hose connected to intake...somebody must have messed with it in transit.

The carb is for the vert, I got a great deal on it at Carlisle and our Rick did the rebuild. He even signed it for me

I'll get them to you when I can Roger.
I have no idea what happened with it but there was nothing there. I got an oil cap at napa in february that is on there now but it will be replaced with the correct tube when I get home. It's all painted now so just have to let it dry for a week, then it can be wrapped and send to the netherlands.

The correct 1959 4 bbl carb is pretty hard to find, so I am impressed that you found one, and happier still that you got it professionally rebuilt. How much did you pay for it at Carlisle?
The carb on the convertible is also correct, and was professionally rebuilt, having only 10K or less on it. Was it acting up? I do remember there was a stumble upon acceleration, but I thought it was a timing issue.
And lastly, what did you need another set of valve covers for? Sorry about all the questions, but I am still interested in the car, even though I no longer own it.

ForwardLookFrank gave me the tip on the carb so I got it for $50 with a rebuilt kit.

The stumble is still there but Rick as a carb specialist pointed me out where the problem was. Something with a linkage but I'm not a specialist.
I didn't needed the valve covers, just the tube but they came as a set. Now I've got some spare valve covers.
