engine identification

Post by my59sportfury »

I have a 59 Plymouth Sport Fury. I just took ownership of it. It was my fathers for over 20 years. He left it sit for 15 years. I am having it worked on as it type.
The guy working on it, is having a hard time to find engine parts due to not knowing the engine size for sure. My father always thought it was a 318 wide block, But the guy working on it says the parts he got so far are for a 361. My distributor is in the rear. I thought a 361 the distributor is in the front. The numbers I found on the block ( looking at the front of the car, the numbers are on the left side below the head) are #1737929. Can someon e help me out? Thanks, Mark

Mark, you'll find the engine section of the shop manual here: http://www.59plymouth.net/59gallery/alb ... Engine.pdf

Indeed, the distrib is in the rear on the 318, in the front on the 361.
