Re: 1959 Plymouth Savoy 2 Door, Lakewood, Ohio

Hi, It's been hard to find time to be online and post with the preperations for the wedding. I've mostly been doing work at my parents house where the wedding is being held. We dug a 75 long french drain where the yard had been flooding, built a platform that will later be part of their deck, remode...

Hi everyone, Just wanted to put up a link to the few pictures I took at Carlise (in no particular order). http://picasaweb.google.com/mfpsky1/59SAtCarlisle2010# [*sigh*... This link is broken. Moving this topic to "Much Ado About Nothing". -Dan] It was great meeting all of you, I wish I co...

Re: 1959 Plymouth parts needed

Funny, Just got an e-mail from Freeman's auto. Wish they had been a bit quicker, some of their prices were lower than John's. Oh well hopefully the parts I ordered will be here soon. I just talked to John, and they should be shipping tomorrow. Then Carlisle is Friday. :D Getting anxious to meet some...

Re: Powerfight noise in neutral and in gear SOLVED!

I think the ones I had been looking at were for 57 & 58 & a separate smaller one with the 1959 specific changes.

Re: where to buy brake lite switch

Andy Bernbaum has them listed at $12.50 for Item g-175

Item g-175
and I bought one from Napa years ago, I can't find the receipt though. Not sure on the price or part number.

Re: Powerfight noise in neutral and in gear SOLVED!

Prices are all over the place on these depending on condition of originals, some are reprints, some are on CD as PDFs (and are search-able), most are pretty pricey though. Reprints of the books seem most expensive. So far I've managed all my repairs with a Motor's manual, it not as detailed though.

Re: Powerfight noise in neutral and in gear SOLVED!

I used Permatex "The Right Stuff". I've had good luck. With it in the past, and the gasket was 4 days away, and 2 times the price. Hasn't lost a drop yet and I just drove her about 20 miles. Although the front wheels rattled a bit. I have to check the drums and wheel bearings. She sat a lo...

Re: Powerfight noise in neutral and in gear

Thank you both for all the help. The problem is solved. I drained the fluid and dropped the pan, and the problem was obvious. The pickup for the front pump was completely clogged. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_IBGQ8eMqlO4/TDJcp6fP-1I/AAAAAAAAA4A/gwI-qbPohlU/s640/2010-07-05%2015.48.09.jpg http://lh5.ggpht.co...

Re: Powerfight noise in neutral and in gear

That's good to hear for now, don't remember seeing a drain plug on the converter, that much easier than changing the fluid in the pan and trying to pump it out through the cooling lines. I can't visualize the slot in the hub, but I'm sure it will make more sense while looking at it. I plan on being ...

That's possible, I did send a long list of parts needed. Thankfully I have most of them coming now! :D

Re: Powerfight noise in neutral and in gear

Thanks for your input, I'm going to try the easy stuff first. The fluid on the dipstick looks clean, and the level is good. I going to climb under and make sure the starter really is disengaging while running. I defiantly don't want to drive it til I trace this sound down. Too much chance of damage....

Re: 1959 Plymouth parts needed

I sent a parts request to them about a month ago, I never got a reply. John, Ron, and Matthew found or had most of what I needed for now. I will try them again after wedding madness is over. I'll always need more parts. :)
Thank you,
Jeff

Powerflite noise in neutral and in gear SOLVED!

It's 4th of July weekend, sunny and beautiful in Cleveland, and seemed like a perfect day for a drive. After fixing my Jeep CJ7, who's ignition module died this morning, I finally got my Savoy out of the drive for the first time this year. I drove it less than 1/2 a mile, to a gas station and back. ...

Re: 1959 Plymouth parts needed

Thanks Roger, I'll keep that in mind. I only need 2 sleeves, and mine is only a Powerflite for now. I'm going to bid on a heater control unit on eBay if the price stays low enough, I can grab them from that if I win it and get a spare heater control in the deal. I'll look at Carlisle to if I don't w...
